Sculpin is a static website creator. I started to use it for this site. In this article I am describing my changes that I did to customize the base installation of Sculpin and some issues that I had and how I got them solved.

Nichtsemester - Datamining with shell tools

Because of the Corona shutdown in Germany some lecturers and students want to pause their studies and the summer semester of 2020 should not be counted. On the other hand capturing lectures by video and then distributing them on the university website or via Youtube is easy and even for technical noobs not a big deal. So who is supporting this petition and are there similarities between the supporters? This article shows how to fetch the petition data from the official website and how to use shell tools to have a closer look at the data.

Download images from Wikipedia

For quiz questionnaires the Wikipedia is a great source of information. As an old proverb says: A picture is worth a thousand words, this article describes how to download images from Wikipedia. I use these to build questionnaires for example: have a list of portraits of well known persons, name the person of each image.

Bismarck Towers

Bismarck towers are landmarks that were erected in Germany mainly in the beginning of the 20th century. This article shows how to get information about the towers and their location in Germany. Data from the Wikipedia is queried with sparql queries to retrieve the desired information. The sparql endpoints of Wikidata and DBpedia are used.
